chokepoints in the cloud (v1)

a zine by anoolia gakhokidze, gwyneth balite, devon castilo, & sucheta ghoshal, 2025

chokepoints are “sites that construct or choke the flows of resources, information, and bodies upon which contemporary life depends” (ashley carse et al. 2020). we use this definition to imagine how data centers can be conceptualized as chokepoints in cloud infrastructure.

this zine is made to accompany a conversation at the circuit breakers gathering in october 2025. this is the first iteration of what we hope will become a living, evolving artifact. a limited number of physical copies are being distributed at the event.

the content of the zine is based on ongoing academic explorations of anoolia gakhokidze & sucheta ghoshal, in creative collaboration with gwyneth balite & devon castillo. it is also a form of play—an anti-methodthis attempt of ours to translate critical theory into the zine form. inspired by the rituals & artifacts of agitation long present in movement cultures—born of urgency, yet grounded in critical analysis all the same. if you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reach out to anoolia or sucheta.
